The Puppy Whisperer

A Compassionate, Nonviolent Guide to Early Training and Care
by Paul Owens and Terence Cranendonk with Norma Eckroate

Following the success of his book, The Dog Whisperer, 2nd Edition, Paul Owens and his protégé Terence Cranendonk bring a step-by-step guide to all things puppy: evaluating temperament, choosing the right personality for the family, diet, health, play, training, exercise, and problem solving. The Puppy Whisperer includes what to do from the moment a family adopts a puppy, starting with the trip home and continuing through the critical developmental months.

Readers learn:

• Three easy steps to teach basic behaviors, tricks, and games that are specific to puppies’ abilities (up to 18 months of age)

• How to handle problem behaviors, including nipping, chewing, jumping, whining, and barking

• The importance of early socialization and positive training

• Step-by-step instructions for potty training

• Safety and health care, including the latest on vaccinations

An indispensable companion to The Dog Whisperer, The Puppy Whisperer is a must-have guide for anyone thinking of adding a furry bundle of joy to the home.

Working With Dogs:

Train Without Pain
Train With The Brain
And On The Emotional Plane

Living with a dog in your home is not always an easy proposition. Teaching the rules of the household and how to coexist in peaceful cooperation with humans, as well as dogs and animals, is a task for which we often find ourselves unprepared. Traditionally, many dog trainers have emphasized physical punishment, or "corrections," and "dominating your dog" as ways of teaching "who's boss." This prevailing attitude has found its way into much of the popular literature and beliefs about the "correct" way to teach a dog appropriate behavior for living in a human world.

In his seminar Working With Dogs, Terence Cranendonk explains and demonstrates nonviolent training methods that address and nurture the physical, emotional, and mental well being of your canine companion. The seminar offers an alternative to punishment-based programs through the use of positive reinforcement, which is not only more enjoyable for dogs and humans but ultimately safer and more effective.

In an interactive presentation, Terence shows you how to apply some of the latest developments in psychology, learning theory, and understanding of canine behavior, as well as stress management techniques, in training designed for the whole dog.

Topics covered include the basic principles of positive reinforcement, clicker training, dog body language, common misconceptions about dogs, toys and play, socialization with people and dogs, and common behavior problems such as destructive chewing, jumping on people and excessive barking. Through its holistic approach, Working With Dogs helps us to remember and enjoy the reasons we choose to live with dogs: emotional companionship, exercise, assistance with daily tasks, learning and fun.

Dealing With Canine Aggression

Aggressive behavior from your dog--whether towards other people, other dogs, or both--can be a daunting, dangerous, and dispiriting situation. Many people feel helpless when faced with such a dilemma, which they know they must address, but are confused or misinformed about how to do so.

In this seminar, Terence Cranendonk helps people begin to formulate solutions to their dog's aggressive behavior. The seminar covers behavior management techniques and equipment, identifying patterns in aggressive behavior, and principles of counter-conditioning.

Please note: This seminar is for people only--do not bring your dog.
This seminar is in no way intended as a substitute for individual attention to your dog's aggressive behavior from a professional trainer or behavior consultant.
